Marble Canyon is located at the northeastern tip of the Grand Canyon, near Lee's Ferry along Alternate US-89. Here the Vermillion Cliffs on the west bank of the river create a spectacular backdrop to the surrounding desert terrain. At the river, the Navajo Bridge stands as an impressive feat of engineering. The original bridge was built in 1928 and is no longer used. A new bridge built in the early 1990's now carries travelers across the gorge. All of the photographs in this gallery were taken from the original Navajo Bridge, with the exception of number 005, which was taken from the east bank between the two bridges.

On the day I visited Marble Canyon in late December, we spotted a condor perched on the railing of the old bridge; however, another pedestrian was already approaching it far ahead of me and it flew off long before I could get close enough to photograph it.

The photographs in this photo tour were taken in December of 2006. They highlight Marble Canyon and the Navajo Bridge that crosses it. Related links for Marble Canyon are listed near the bottom of this page.

The two bridges were built practically side-by-side. The
